Great Bay Masters Man vs. Nature Weekend, Part 1:
Rockland Breakwater Swim, Saturday August 25

Five Great Bay Masters made the journey to Rockland Maine to participate in the Rockland Breakwater Swim. The course goes down the right side of the breakwater and hooks around the end in a "J" shape. One lap of the course is 1.6 miles. Carol Prescott, Danielle Strater and Rachel Cilley completed the 1.6 mile race, and Jana Slezak and Ed Gendreau swam the 3.2 mile.

Word was that the water temperature was 57F on the harbor side of the breakwater and 50F on the ocean side. There did seem to be about 6" of warmer water above the cold. With a wet suit the water temperature was not a problem for most swimmers. One woman completed the 3.2 mile swim with no wet suit (a first).

This was the second year the event has been run. Congratulations to Maine Masters for hosting a great event. This event was a lot of fun, and we look forward to doing it again in 2008.

Great Bay Masters welcomes new members. We have a lot to offer - swim with us!
