Great Bay Masters Man vs. Nature IV:
St. Croix 5-mile open water swim race October 21, 2007

St. Croix island -USVI-held 12th Annual St. Croix 5 mile swim . Two of our GBM entered this very exciting swim.

The 5-mile open-water course extends from beautiful Buck Island through two miles of crystal clear sea to the coastline of St. Croix. The course continues along the shore through colorful reefs and sandy bottoms, finishing at the main beach of St. Croix's premiere destination resort. The event has grown from a handful of local athletes in 1996 to a renowned international event in 2007. Swimmers from locations throughout the world, as well as Olympic athletes - Amanda Beard, Misty Hyman, Margaret Hoelzer, Rowdy Gaines , and Pan American Gold Medallist Alex Kostich enjoyed this race.

Check out www.swimrace.com for information, pictures and results.

Next year will be offered a 2 mile swim as well. Swimmers with fins are welcomed too. Relays created by families or friends were a good way to add fun to this event. We are planning for more GBM masters to come next year to swim this very rewarding and beautiful swim, together with snorkeling trips, tennis, basketball, volleyball, golf, scuba diving, sailing, historic city walk, or hiking. The water temperature was about 85 F and water visibility was 100 yards.

Great Bay Masters welcomes new members. We have a lot to offer - swim with us!
